3M 2080 Series

3M 2080 wrap cost,
installed and DIY.

3M 2080 is the industry-standard cast vinyl. It replaced the long-running 3M 1080 in 2022, ships in over one hundred colours across gloss, satin, matte, and carbon-fibre texture, and carries a seven-year vertical-surface warranty when installed by a 3M-certified shop. This page covers what it actually costs both ways. Per-vehicle installed pricing for the buyer paying a shop, and per-roll pricing for the home installer who plans to do it themselves. Plus the warranty fine print, how 2080 differs from the films around it, and the finish options on the SKU sheet.

Quick answer

Installed sedan in gloss: $2,500 to $5,000. SUV: $3,500 to $6,000. Truck: $3,500 to $7,000. Van: $4,000 to $8,000. Matte and satin add 10 to 20% on top. DIY rolls: $650 to $850 for 60in x 25ft. Seven-year vertical-surface warranty through a 3M-certified installer. Finishes covered: gloss, satin, matte, carbon fibre texture.

The film

A cast vinyl
built for full wraps.

3M 2080 is a 3.5 mil cast polymeric vinyl with a pressure-sensitive comply adhesive and an embedded air-release channel pattern. The cast construction gives it the conformability needed for compound curves, deep recesses, and bumper edges that a cheaper calendared film cannot survive without tearing or shrinking back. The repositionable adhesive lets an installer lift and reposition the sheet during the first hour without losing tack, which is what makes 2080 the recommended film for installers earning their first thousand hours.

The 2080 range replaced 3M 1080 across all new shop stock starting late 2022. The two films share the same backing and adhesive but 2080 carries a reformulated topcoat that handles hot-climate UV better, and the colour palette grew by roughly 30 new SKUs at the transition. Full product spec lives on 3M's product page.

Pricing assumes 3M 2080 gloss installed by a 3M-certified shop using a full prep cycle (wash, clay, IPA wipe-down, panel removal where required). Mid-tier shops without 3M certification typically come in 10 to 20 percent below the low end, with a tradeoff on warranty coverage. The square-footage figures come from the homepage estimator data and match the SSOT vehicle-class baselines.

Finish premiums on 2080

Four finishes, three premiums.

3M 2080 ships in four finish families. Gloss is the price baseline. The non-gloss finishes carry SKU-level premiums that the manufacturer publishes and that shops pass through with minor markup. The matte premium reflects the harder topcoat, the slower install (matte shows fingerprints and dust during application), and the slightly higher material cost. Carbon-fibre texture costs more because the textured film bridges differently across compound curves and adds installation time per panel.

Gloss

Baseline

Widest colour selection. Easiest to maintain. Wax-safe, polish-safe, automatic-carwash safe with a soft-cloth bay.

Satin

+10 to +15%

Modern subtle sheen. Hides swirl marks. Daily-driver friendly. The most-recommended pick by installers in 2026.

Matte

+10 to +20%

Flat, dramatic, photographs as a single colour. No wax, no automatic carwash, matte-specific cleaner required.

Carbon fibre

+25 to +40%

Textured 3D look. Almost always used as an accent panel (hood, roof) rather than a full body wrap.

Reference: matte at the +10 to +20 percent premium pushes a sedan in 2080 matte to $2,750 to $6,000. SUV in matte: $3,850 to $7,200. See the matte finish deep-dive for the full table and the maintenance reality.

DIY economics

What a 3M 2080 roll
actually costs the home installer.

Buying a 60-inch by 25-foot 2080 roll from an authorised distributor runs $650 to $850 in the United States as of 2026. The full 75-foot roll lands at $1,700 to $2,100. Authorised sources include Rvinyl, Sign Warehouse, MetroRestyling, and the 3M Commercial Solutions reseller network. Buying off marketplaces such as eBay or unverified Amazon sellers commonly nets a roll for $400 to $600, but the warranty is gone and roughly 15 percent of those rolls are reported to be expired stock or grey-market product without the genuine 3M backing.

One 25-foot roll covers a sedan with 15 to 25 percent waste, depending on how many panels need re-cuts. A pickup truck or full-size van needs a second roll. A first-time DIY install will waste closer to 30 percent of the film. Plan the spend accordingly.

DIY total spend, sedan

  • 3M 2080 roll (60in x 25ft)$650 to $850
  • Squeegees, magnets, gloves, knifeless tape$120 to $200
  • Heat gun (entry-level Wagner, Porter Cable)$50 to $120
  • Isopropyl alcohol, microfibres, clay$30 to $60
  • Re-cut allowance (extra 10 to 20 ft)$120 to $200
  • Realistic total$970 to $1,430

Compare to $2,500 to $5,000 for the same sedan wrapped by a 3M-certified shop. DIY saves 50 to 70 percent but the first install commonly produces a result the owner describes as "ok at five feet, awful at five inches".

2080 vs 1080

What changed at the 2022 transition.

3M discontinued the 1080 product line in late 2022 and replaced it with 2080. The change was advertised as a topcoat reformulation and a colour palette expansion. In practice the differences matter most to installers ordering by SKU and to owners researching mid-life wrap maintenance. The headline facts:

For a 2026 buyer the practical question is colour. If the colour exists in 2080, order 2080. The only reason to source 1080 today is to spot-repair an older wrap and match the existing topcoat exactly. Authorised distributors still hold limited 1080 stock for spot-replacement orders. Pricing is roughly equivalent.

3M 2080 FAQ

Buyer and installer questions.

How much does a 3M 2080 wrap cost?+
Installed by a certified shop, a 3M 2080 wrap runs $2,500 to $5,000 for a sedan in gloss, $3,500 to $6,000 for an SUV, $3,500 to $7,000 for a pickup truck, and $4,000 to $8,000 for a full-size van. These are the gloss-baseline numbers. Matte and satin add 10 to 20 percent on top. Carbon-fibre texture adds 25 to 40 percent. The film itself accounts for roughly 25 to 35 percent of the installed price, with the rest split between labour, prep, and shop overhead.
What does a 3M 2080 roll cost for DIY?+
A 60-inch by 25-foot 3M 2080 roll runs $650 to $850 retail in the United States, sourced from authorised distributors such as Rvinyl, MetroRestyling, and Sign Warehouse. A 60-inch by 75-foot full-roll lands at $1,700 to $2,100. One 25-foot roll covers roughly a sedan or compact SUV including waste. Plan on two rolls for a full-size truck or van. Independent online retailers occasionally undercut authorised distributors, but a 3M warranty only applies if the roll was bought from an authorised seller.
What is the warranty on 3M 2080?+
3M offers a seven-year vertical-surface warranty and a five-year horizontal-surface warranty on 2080 vinyl applied by a 3M-certified installer in the United States and Canada. Hood, roof, and trunk surfaces fall under the shorter horizontal term because UV exposure is roughly double. The warranty covers cracking, peeling, and excessive fading beyond a defined Delta-E threshold. It does not cover damage from accidents, chemical spills, abrasion, or non-approved cleaning products. Read the official 3M MCS warranty document before installation if warranty matters to the buyer.
How is 3M 2080 different from the discontinued 3M 1080?+
3M 1080 was the predecessor cast film that ran from 2012 to 2022. 3M phased out 1080 in 2022 and replaced it with 2080. The two films share the same backing and adhesive system but 2080 added two changes: a wider colour palette including new satin and matte SKUs, and a reformulated topcoat that resists UV-driven plasticiser migration better than 1080 in hot-climate testing. Existing 1080 wraps installed before the changeover remain under their original seven-year warranty until expiration, but new installs from 2023 onward are all 2080 only.
Which finishes does 3M 2080 come in?+
The 2080 range covers gloss, satin, matte, and carbon-fibre texture. Within those finishes you get over 100 colour SKUs including the popular Gloss Black, Satin Sphere Black, Matte Black, Gloss White, and Satin White workhorses, plus more aggressive picks like Gloss Riot Green, Satin Vampire Red, and Matte Volcanic Flare. 3M does not currently sell colour-shift or chrome under the 2080 label. Those specialist finishes require Avery Dennison SW900, KPMF, or Inozetek.
Should I pick 3M 2080 over Avery SW900?+
Both films sit at the premium tier with seven-year warranties and very similar pricing. Many installers stock both and let the client pick based on colour. The practical differences: 3M 2080 has a slightly more forgiving adhesive that is easier for newer installers to handle, which matters if the shop doing your install is not chrome-specialist tier. Avery SW900 carries a wider satin and colour-shift palette and is the default pick when colour-shift is on the table. For a first-time wrap on a daily driver in gloss or matte, either film will land identical results.
How long does a 3M 2080 wrap actually last?+
Five to seven years for daily drivers in mild climates with garage storage. Three to five years for daily drivers in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Houston, or Miami where UV and surface temperature do most of the damage. Seven years and beyond for show vehicles that live in conditioned storage and only see road use occasionally. The film typically loses visual evenness on horizontal panels (hood, roof, trunk) before vertical panels, and the warranty reflects that.
